Summit on Skills and Learning
CGA-Canada’s 100th Anniversary celebrations continue with the CGA-Canada Summit on Skills and Learning organized by the Public Policy Forum which will take place in Ottawa on May 28th, 2008 at the National Arts Centre.
This by invitation only event will bring together academics, entrepreneurs, business leaders, union members, industry association representatives and officials, ethnic and Aboriginal community representatives, students, retirees and CGA members to debate the challenges facing current initiatives and the opportunities to improve their focus and delivery against the backdrop of a changing society and competitive global markets.
As a prelude to the Summit, eight regional roundtables were held in Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Sudbury, Montreal, Halifax and St. John’s in order to get a sense of the issues being faced across Canada in respect of the issue. The findings from these consultations will form the report that will shape the agenda and debate at the Summit.
The outcome of this event will be a final report, or legacy piece, which will include several key recommendations on how the future of skills and learning can be shaped in a more positive and effective manner.
CGA-Canada and the Public Policy Forum are pleased to announce that the Secretary-General of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO will join us for the lunch. As the Luncheon Keynote, David A. Walden will situate skills and learning challenges in the international context to give experts a sense of where Canada stands, how the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is working to address these challenges globally, and how this can help to keep Canada competitive and further strengthen our social fabric.
The luncheon is free to attend however you must pre-register with the Public Policy Forum at www.ppforum.ca.
For an overview of the issues, please see the Summit on Skills and Learning background report.
